Anxiety and the Corona Virus

Given the effect that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has had on the world, as we knew it, there is an almost unprecedented level of anxiety.

If you are experiencing anxiety then there are lots of things that you can do to help reduce your level.

If this is severe you should go see your Doctor who may refer you to a psychologist.

For less severe levels, a Counselor like myself plus there are many other therapists who can help you.

Sessions can also be held using Skype or Zoom, especially useful if you are in isolation or not on or near South East Queensland. We already have clients all over Australia.


What we are seeing at the moment is a heightened level of worry about the future. Both short term, the next six months and long term, the rest of our lives or those of our family. Especially children.

    • Will I be able to keep my job?
    • What will happen if I lose my job?
    • Will I or my loved ones become ill with the virus?
    • Can any of us survive the virus?
    • How will we get through this pandemic?
    • Will our world ever be the same again?

While anxiety is a normal and healthy emotion, heightened and long-term levels of anxiety can be damaging. Both mentally and physically.

You might experience physical sensations such as increased heart rate and feeling shaky. Thoughts about danger or threat such as worrying about getting sick or not getting on well with others.

Plus behaviours like avoiding situations or seeking reassurance from others.

For some people, anxiety can become problematic.

Worries can start to feel uncontrollable and people can start avoiding important activities and become insular. These feelings can result in depression which can lead to suicide.
